Derby Aboriginal Health Service (DAHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) providing holistic primary health care services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Derby and surrounding communities. DAHS provides a wide range of innovative public health programs in addition to direct comprehensive primary health care services.

Your Next Opportunity:

We’re seeking dedicated General Practitioners who are passionate about providing high-quality medical services to regional communites. This is an incredibly rewading opportunity to join a multidisciplinary and passionate team in delivering holistic primary care services on ideally a full-time basis (though we are open to candidates who are seeking 0.9 FTE part-time opportunities).

As our next General Practitioner, you’ll be working alongside our team of nurses in our walk-in clinic in Derby. This will involve tending to a diverse range of patients who at times may have complex needs, and who may only have the ability to visit the clinic a handful of times per year. 

On occasion, you will also have the opportunity to be flown out to other communities throughout the Kimberley region, allowing you to see part of Australia that many may never get to see, while also providing quality care services to some of our most remote patients. The role does not require on-call or after-hours work, so in your spare time you can enjoy all the natural delights that this picturesque region has to offer. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing clinical services to DAHS patients and clients in the DAHS town-based clinic as part of the regular DAHS GP roster, in keeping with regionally accepted best practice standards and protocols
  • Throughout all aspects of professional praactice, work with colleagues and clients in a framework of cultural safety which respects local cultural beliefs and practices
  • Visiting remote communities via plane or 4WD to provide culturally-informed primary care services

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

To be considered for this role, you’ll need to be a vocationaly registered and AHPRA-registered General Practitioner who is passionate about public health and closing the healthcare gap among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. You should also be excited to join an organisation that provides a holistic set of services to patients who are wanting to access western medicine alongside traditional Aboriginal healing services.

Candidates with experience working in a remote setting, especially within an Aboriginal community controlled health context, will be highly regarded.

You must be a medical doctor with the ability to work in general practice with minimal supervision. Candidates who do not meet this requirement will not be considered for the position.

Note: as we are unable to provide sponsorship at this time, you will need to have the unrestricted right to live and work in Australia.

In addition to a competitive salary of $275,000 + superannuation, the successful candidate will receive a host of additional generous benefits, including:

  • Relocation assistance: we’ll provide up to $5,000 to help you make Derby your new home
